A storytelling collaboration with National Geographic CreativeWorks starring Letitia Wright

    March 18, 2026

    STEWARDS OF THE OCEAN: HAWAI'I

In the second documentary of the 2026 series, created by National Geographic CreativeWorks, Prada’s storytelling partner, showcasing Prada Re-Nylon initiative and the SEA BEYOND educational project, actor Letitia Wright travels to the coast of Hawai'i which is home to an extraordinary diversity of marine life; nearly a quarter of its marine species are unique to these waters and cannot be found anywhere else on Earth.

In Hawaiian, the word Malama 'aina translates as a way to take care of the land and the ocean – a central notion to life within this Pacific Island state, where land, sea and humanity co-exist in a delicate equilibrium. Wright investigates its rich ecology alongside Titouan Bernicot, SEA BEYONDer, Goodwill Ambassador of the project, and Founder of Coral Gardeners – the non-profit organization dedicated to restoring coral reefs supported by SEA BEYOND – who dives under the waves to explore its unique seascape.

Wright also speaks with Dr. Kapono Ciotti, director of the Pacific American Foundation - a partner of the Hawaii Blue Schools Hui, which is a regional group of the USA Blue Schools and the Blue School Global Network, coordinated by UNESCO, which brings together schools at a global level that include ocean education in their curricula.

Through a two-year educational journey, the Hawai'i Blue Schools Hui aims to build students’ ocean literacy through place-based action projects that celebrate Hawai'i’s unique biodiversity and rich cultural legacy: these young sea custodians dive beneath the surface, developing a deep understanding of the challenges affecting global water bodies. This learning path was made possible by SEA BEYOND1.

As of July 2023, 1% of the proceeds from the Prada Re-Nylon for SEA BEYOND Collection benefit SEA BEYOND, the project by Prada Group conducted in partnership with the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO.

The new episode of Prada Re-Nylon is now available on prada.com

1 SEA BEYOND collaborates with NMEA (National Marine Educators Associaton), an organization whose goal is to advance the understanding and protection of marine and aquatic ecosystems, and parent organization of the USA Blue Schools. The Pacific American Foundation is a partner of the Hawai'i Blue Schools Hui.

    SEA BEYOND

SEA BEYOND is a project by Prada Group conducted in partnership with the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO since 2019 to raise awareness of sustainability and ocean preservation, contributing to the progress of ocean education on a global scale through a series of training initiatives for younger generations. Since its debut, the educational program has shared the principles of ocean literacy with more than 38,000 students around the world. Moreover, the “Kindergarten of the Lagoon” project – outdoor education activities for preschool children in Venice – was launched in 2023 to create links between kids and the lagoon ecosystem. While the main focus remains education, SEA BEYOND has recently extended its scope to new areas of focus: support for scientific research, community engagement activities and policy advocacy dedicated to the ocean. The commitment was further reinforced in 2025 with the launch of the SEA BEYOND – Multi-Partner Trust Fund for Connecting People and Ocean, designed to mobilize financial resources from a broad coalition of partners to help restore the relationship between humanity and the ocean. As of July 2023, 1% of the proceeds from the Prada Re-Nylon for SEA BEYOND Collection benefit SEA BEYOND. The list of products in this Collection is available at www.prada.com. Through SEA BEYOND, Prada Group has also trained its employees worldwide on ocean literacy principles via VR educational content and the AWorld app, the official platform selected by the United Nations to live more sustainably.
