    THE 38TH AMERICA’S CUP: NAPOLI 2027

After the excellent results achieved in the 36th America’s Cup – presented by PRADA in 2021, and the 37th America’s Cup held in 2024, Luna Rossa launched its seventh America’s Cup challenge for the oldest sporting trophy and the pinnacle of sailing, which, for the first time in its 176-year history, will take place in Italy, with Naples serving as the host city.

Being held in Italy is not the only new feature of the 2027 event, which has been renewed in several respects. From an organizational standpoint, the most significant change is the creation of the America’s Cup Partnership (ACP), an equal governance structure among the teams that will be responsible for all aspects of the event. From a sporting perspective, the format remains the same as in the previous edition, with the exception of fleet racing, which will be introduced alongside match racing in the Challenger Selection Series. In addition, at least one woman sailor will be required to be part of the AC75 crew. Naples will host the Challenger Selection Series and the America’s Cup Match, as well as a number of preliminary regattas and the Women’s and Youth events.

    ルナ・ロッサの物語

In 2027, Luna Rossa celebrates 30 years of history, during which it has launched seven America’s Cup challenges, becoming the longest-standing challenger in the competition’s history. The team was established in Milan on a February evening in 1997 following an encounter between entrepreneur Patrizio Bertelli and Argentine yacht designer Germán Frers, who suggested launching a challenge for the 30th America’s Cup in Auckland, New Zealand, in 2000. Luna Rossa sealed victories in two editions of the Challenger Selection Series – Louis Vuitton Cup 2000 and PRADA Cup 2021 – and has competed in the final five times. Since its debut, the team has witnessed and played a leading role in all the major transformations that have shaped the America’s Cup from a yacht design perspective, evolving from the IACC Class to multihulls and ultimately to the current foiling monohulls, with which it will compete in the 38th America’s Cup in Naples, coinciding with its seventh campaign. On June 29, 2012, Patrizio Bertelli became the first Italian in history to be inducted in the America’s Cup Hall of Fame.
