A high profile exhibition – dedicated to the 500th anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci’s trip to Amboise in France, where, at the invitation of King Francis I, he spent the last three years of his life – was recently unveiled at the Italian Embassy in Paris.
The initiative, organised by the Italian ambassador Giandomenico Magliano, has received the High Patronage of the Presidents of the Italian and French Republic and the backing of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Cultural Heritage, and was supported by Prada, which is one of the three Main Sponsors.
The project, organised in partnership with the Louvre and some of Italy’s leading museums, follows Leonardo’s creative development between 1516 and 1519. As well as numerous paintings and drawings of great artistic value, most notably ‘La Scapiliata’ (The Head of a Woman), the exhibition also features documents and unique historical research into this period and Leonardo’s arrival in France.
The exhibition is split into two adjoining sections: an interactive and multimedia historical and educational area, divided up into various themes, and the works of Leonardo and his closest associates who accompanied him on his journey to France.
Italian Embassy in Paris – 47, Rue de Varenne – from 22th September to 20th November.
