The Prada Resort 2019 fashion show was held at the Piano Factory, Prada’s headquarters in New York.
The building, a former piano factory, as the name suggests, and the result of Prada’s first collaboration with the architects Herzog & de Meuron in 2000, retains only the original concrete structure, and is completely devoid of architectural features inside.
Large, semi-transparent suspended panels were installed for the show on the intentionally empty seventh floor of the building, which could be moved to allow in or block the light of the sunset. Real images of the city and depictions of imaginary urban landscapes were projected onto these panels, creating a mix of analogue and virtual reality.
Meanwhile, red panels and lights were installed on the large windows to create the effect of an ‘amplified sunset’, in contrast with the light outside.
