Fondazione Prada in Milan presents ‘Extinct in the Wild’, a project conceived by the American artist Michael Wang that brings together, in an artificial habitat, various species of flora and fauna that no longer exist in the wild and that only survive in captivity.
These species have been forced to leave nature behind and enter the universe built by mankind, in a sort of forced migration to a new and unknown world: true survival strategies in an age of extinction.
The species are displayed in three large glass and aluminium structures, with artificial lights to ensure the characteristics of the habitats remain constant. They have been entrusted to a team of gardeners, scientists and enthusiasts, the guardians of their only chance of survival.
The exhibition, which will open on 8 February, also features 20 photographs taken between 2014 and the present day by Michael Wang showing various animal and plant species in their original habitats before they became extinct in the wild.
From 9 February to 9 April 2017
