Prada has expanded and completely renovated its shop on Hong Kong’s major shopping street, Canton Road.
The store has two levels and two distinctive entrances: one outside, leading onto Canton Road, and one inside the Harbour City Mall. The geometric and optical design of the outside shop front pays homage to Carlos Cruz-Diez, the Venezuelan artist based in France, whilst the inside shop front, made of black Marquina marble, is broken up by the windows and entrance, providing an excellent view of the shop’s interior.
The areas dedicated to womenswear alternate green encaustic painting and black marble spaces with red and green velvet rooms and green velvet walls, along with a contrasting video wall.
Prada has created a special collection of unique items to mark the occasion, predominantly parkas made of exquisite silk faille.
The menswear department, meanwhile, stands out for its tall, black iron and glass furniture, blue ostrich leather chairs and geometric carpets in Air Force blue and grey.
There is also a special room dedicated to ready-to-wear, with dark, narrow wooden floorboards, walls clad in Air Force blue velvet and chairs made of grey velvet with wooden arms, offering a more intimate and masculine atmosphere.
On July 22nd Prada hosted an in-store cocktail event in Hong Kong to celebrate the re-opening of Canton Road store. Amongst the guests are Arissa Cheo, Jennifer Tse, Harris Chan, Helen Ma, Hilary Tsui, Kathy Chow, Kelly Chen, Rex Tso, Sean Lau, Song Hye Kyo.
