The historic Tannerie Mégisserie Hervy di Isle (Limoges, France), now named Tannerie Limoges, was taken over by Prada in 2014 to revitalise the business and guarantee its future. The company is a leading exponent of the most traditional form of lambskin tanning. As well as producing extremely high quality leather, it also aims to preserve the expert craftsmanship required for the manufacturing processes, passed down through generations of highly qualified workers who hold the “recipes” of chemical compounds used in the process, an integral and fundamental part of the knowledge required for a tannery to function.
Tannerie Limoges specialises in nappa plongé, a lambskin that is particularly soft to the touch with a completely natural appearance. This is due both to the traditional mechanical and manual processing, which bestows the leather with its aesthetic and functional properties, and the care given to maintaining the quality of the leather itself.
In addition, the tannery is entirely self-sufficient for the entire manufacturing process, from the raw hide to the finished product, and so does not have to rely on any external partners. It currently employs 23 people and produces approximately 7,000 m2 of leather a month.
The acquisition of Tannerie Limoges is further proof of Prada’s continued and constant commitment to searching out the highest quality in all fields.
