Since 2010, Prada has collaborated with Fondo Ambiente Italiano (Italian National Trust – FAI) on seven conservation and restoration projects, to mark the opening of the brand’s shops in major Italian cities.
The partnership with FAI is inspired and underpinned by five principles: knowledge, pragmatism, consistency, independence and quality, and aims to return precious local artistic heritage to the community. The project reinforces Prada’s strong ties to art and culture, which are an integral part of its key values; wherever Prada opens a new store in Italy, it supports restoration and renovation projects in that region.
These are the projects completed to date:
– Bologna: Restoration of four plaster casts at the Academy of Fine Arts (2010)
Restoration of three arches at the Palazzo dell’Archiginnasio (2010)
– Padua: Renovation of the Saccello di San Prosdocimo (2012)
– Bari: Restoration of a Polyptych by Antonio Vivarini (2013)
Restoration of the well at the Abbazia di Santa Maria di Cerrate (2013)
– Turin: Donation of a new curtain to the Teatro Regio (2014)
– Florence: Restoration of Giorgio Vasari’s panel painting The Last Supper (2014)
Vasari’s The Last Supper, the restoration of which is currently in its final stages, will be officially returned to Florence and housed in the Opera di Santa Croce museum to mark the 50th anniversary of the flood in the city on November 4th 1966, which caused serious damage to the artwork.
