Perspectives and Synthesis are the two new visual identities for the Prada Resort 2018 campaign, part of the 365 project, an innovative and eclectic advertising concept that presents multiple interpretations of the Prada collections.
In Perspectives, Osservatorio, the Fondazione Prada space above the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan, where the Prada Resort 2018 fashion show was held, becomes a frame that offers a view of Modernism informed and inspired by the past, yet always looking forwards. The photographer Willy Vanderperre captures model Kris Grikaite in the Milan Osservatorio, its dome forming an evocative backdrop where three-dimensions become two-dimensions, real becomes abstract, the observer becomes the observed, and the historical becomes modern. These are extraordinarily immediate images, in which perspectives are constantly shifted and horizons reinvented in the continual contrasts between the collection’s key looks and the architecture of the Galleria: the strict, artificial geometry of the iron and glass contradicts Grikaite’s natural, spontaneous demeanour.
Synthesis, meanwhile, is the fusion of disparate elements to form a connected whole. This new visual identity provides a closer view of the accessories from Prada’s Resort 2018 collection; the images juxtapose close-ups of Kris Grikaite with ‘portraits’ of this season’s handbags. Again inspired by the Osservatorio, Vanderperre’s sequence of images observes in minute detail the key changes and evolutions in the canon of classic Prada accessories, reinvented for the new season.
