A new exhibition is opening at the Osservatorio space in Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan, dedicated to the work of Stefano Graziani and curated by Francesco Zanot. It includes a new body of works commissioned by Fondazione Prada that explore photography as a tool for narration, cataloguing and reinterpretation. In this project Graziani investigates museums’ archiving and conservation systems, concentrating on the ambivalent relationship between photography and the museum object. The photographer maintains an ambiguous position, documenting a wide range of materials on the one hand, while, on the other hand, embarking on an interpretative journey through the careful use of light and camera angles, as well as the inclusion of disturbing elements in his shots. His photographs therefore not only shed light on museum collections and archives usually not accessible to visitors, but also reactivate them using entirely subjective logic and perspectives.
Fondazione Prada – Osservatorio – Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, Milan – from 9 November 2017 to 26 February 2018.
