Prada and the National Chamber of Italian Fashion Working Together for Sustainability Following in-depth research and analysis, the ‘Guidelines on Eco-toxicological Requirements for Items of Clothing, Leather Goods, Footwear and Accessories’ have been released. This is the first tangible result to emerge from the Sustainability Working Group, chaired by Carlo Capasa, the President of the National Chamber of Italian Fashion, a group in which Prada has played an active role since its creation.
The research took into consideration more than 350 groups of chemical substances, and the document sets out guidelines for the gradual reduction in the use of certain groups in the supply chain, and, where possible, their complete removal, for the benefit of the environment, consumers and the general public.
The guidelines will be periodically revised and expanded to take progress made in toxicological risk analysis, the latest technology and the results of scientific research into account. This document is therefore merely the first step in the journey the National Chamber of Italian Fashion and its associates want to take to achieve the highest possible standards of sustainability.
Prada has committed to aligning its standards with the National Chamber of Italian Fashion guidelines by the end of 2016.
A symbol of this process is Terzo Paradiso, the artwork created by Michelangelo Pistoletto and Cittadellarte, which represents a joint commitment to sustainable economic and social development from businesses and artists.
