The book entitled Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, edited by the art historian Stefano Zuffi, illustrated with previously unseen photographs and with texts in both Italian and English, has been released to celebrate 150 years since the building’s first stone was laid. Working chronologically, the book takes readers on a journey that starts in the Risorgimento period and ends with the recent restoration work supported by Prada, alongside other private companies, which is giving the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II back its charm of old. It therefore provides not only the history of an extraordinary 19th century monument, but also a reflection of the city itself. Indeed, the flow of life that passes through the Galleria, mixing locals and tourists, celebrities and the general public, mirrors the changes that take place in the city.
