The new Miu Miu Automne 2017 campaign is part of an ongoing investigation into the fleeting nature of contemporary images, almost a metaphor for the transience of youth. These new portraits, shot by Alasdair McLellan, depict young women lolling in warm, intimate spaces, in a series of photos scrapbooked on top of one another as if stashed in a photo album or shared on social media.
Four friends – the actress Jaime King and models Samantha Archibald, Iesha Hodges and Lily Nova – prepare for a night out in a luxury London hotel room. The shots are slightly tongue-in-cheek, seemingly spur-of-the moment, in the style of an amateur selfie but with lighting that brings out the complex colouration of the collection, the exquisite embroidery, satin pumps, soft leather bags, metallic studs and stones that shine in the camera’s flash.
It is a scene full of femininity: the ritual of getting dressed, sharing clothes and exchanging possessions, and tells a story of female friendship: coy, relaxed and physical.
