The Prada SS 2017 Womenswear show presents a new type of personal, existential elegance that is very feminine and sensuous. This more intimate and humane stylistic approach has a glamorous vibe emphasized by feathers that decorate garments in an unusual way and by bikinis that are exposed and worn over other pieces. This innovative, modern and distinctive collection is based on a concept of “new simplicity”.
The garments – skirts, blouses, sweaters and Chinese pajamas – are seemingly simple, while combinations are unusual and deliberately “wrong”. Everything reveals restrained styling for a perfectly balanced result.
The choice of fabrics is fundamental: new, modern interpretations of jersey, nylon and chiffon have a synthetic look and smooth feel. Classic hues such as beige and camel are the point of departure for a multicolored palette of vibrant shades that accentuate original graphic, geometric, and floral prints.
A wide variety of bags such as clutches, top-handle bags, and briefcases and footwear that includes flat sandals, wedges, and slip-on sandals complete the look.
The new space is built over the remnants of the previous season with the center axis containing a 12-screen film installation designed by the director David O. Russell and the New York studio 2×4: a surreal dreamscape with an eclectic cast replaying scenes in shifting combinations and the content derived from the soon-to-be released short film ‘Past Forward’, a collaboration between Russell and Miuccia Prada.
