From July 7th to September 25tth, 2016 Fondazione Prada is presenting “True Value” and “T.T.T. – Template Temples of Tenacity”, two exhibitions conceived independently by Elvira Dyangani Ose and dedicated to the work of Theaster Gates and Nástio Mosquito respectively. The exhibitions will include installations, site-specific works, projections and group and musical events in which the audience will play an active role.
The multidisciplinary work of Theaster Gates (Chicago, USA, 1973) incorporates a vast range of artistic languages: sculpture, painting, installation, music and performance, as well his urban development initiatives. It embodies a conviction that everyday objects can promote deep knowledge based both on their material appearance and on the experiences connected to their use. “True Value” brings together a selection of recent works and new commissions in two of the Fondazione’s spaces (the first floor of the Podium and the Cisterna) and includes the installation that gives the exhibition its name, a reconstruction of an abandoned hardware shop.
Meanwhile, the work of Nástio Mosquito (Luanda, Angola, 1981), a multidisciplinary artist who has made a name for himself internationally thanks to his provocative and irreverent performances, combines music, video, installations and performance art. Mosquito often adopts the role of an unpredictable showman covering many roles simultaneously: presenter, singer, actor and theatrical producer. His practice revolves around the theme of cultural inheritance. “T.T.T. – Template Temples of Tenacity” comprises three new projects made in partnership with international artists and presented on the ground floor of the Podium, in the Cinema and in the outside spaces of the Fondazione.
