The Costume Institute’s spring exhibition ‘Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology’ will be on view at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art from May 5 through August 14, 2016.
In celebration of its opening, the traditional Met Gala will take place on May 2; the evening’s co-chairs will be Idris Elba, Jonathan Ive, Taylor Swift and Anna Wintour while Miuccia Prada, Nicolas Ghesquière and Karl Lagerfeld will serve as Honorary Chairs.
Andrew Bolton, Curator in The Costume Institute, and Jonathan Ive, Apple’s Chief Design Officer, have underlined how ‘Manus x Machina’ ‘will challenge the conventions of the hand/machine dichotomy’ and how ‘both the automated and handcrafted process require similar amounts of thoughtfulness and expertise and it’s the amount of care put into the craftsmanship, whether it’s machine-made or hand-made, that transforms ordinary materials into something extraordinary.’
‘Manus x Machina’ will feature more than 100 examples of haute couture and avant-garde ready-to-wear, dating from 1880 to 2015.
Prada will be present with 22 looks of different collections, from 1995 to 2016.
