Prada Rong Zhai, the historic mansion restored to its former glory by Prada, has now opened in Shanghai. With a design curated by architect Roberto Baciocchi and the result of collaboration between Western architects and scholars and Chinese craftsmen, this dialogue between Milan and Shanghai underlines Prada’s credentials in the conservation of historic buildings.
Originally designed in 1918 for the family of the renowned magnate Yung Tsoong-King, known as ‘the flour king of China’, Prada Rong Zhai is one of the most beautiful villas in the city, with a Western-style garden.
To mark the opening of the mansion, Prada has published a guide that outlines the various stages of the restoration work and illustrates each of the residence’s rooms, revealing the final result of six years of work on this complex project.
The opening was celebrated on 12 October and 14 October with a series of events, including a presentation of the Prada Resort 2018 collection, followed by an exclusive dinner, a press conference, a cocktail and an exhibition, which is open to the public until 17 December.
