Rong Zhai, an historic mansion in central Shanghai, reimagined by Prada as a flexible venue for cultural activities, will officially open on 12 October, following six years of meticulous restoration by the company.
Prada Rong Zhai (1918), originally designed for the family of the renowned magnate with close links to the city of Shanghai Yung Tsoong-King, known as ‘the flour king of China’, is one of the most beautiful villas in the city, with a Western-style garden. Renovating the Rong Zhai has been a truly global cultural collaboration between Prada, Western architects, scholars and Chinese craftsmen; a dialogue between Milan and Shanghai that pays homage to the family that originally commissioned this historic residence, the Chinese architects and artists that built it and the teams of Chinese and Italian craftsmen that have returned it to its original glory.
The historic and luxurious building will house the Prada Group’s numerous activities in China and will be unveiled at an exclusive preview, including a Prada Resort 2018 fashion show, on 12 October, with a press conference and cocktail party to mark the opening on 14 October and other activities held during Shanghai Fashion Week.
