(The [End) of History Illusion], the 14th film in the Miu Miu Women’s Tales project, was previewed at the Venice Film Festival’s Giornate degli Autori.
The director and choreographer Celia Rowlson-Hall’s advert for an imaginary nuclear bunker during the cold war explores the recent phenomenon of the exploitation of fear by commercialism, in a spectacle designed to distract and entertain, with the feel of a 1950s Hollywood musical.
The characters of (The [End) of History Illusion] inhabit this surreal and picturesque living space, until chaos eventually destroys the illusion.
As well as Celia Rowlson-Hall’s film there was also a screening of Carmen by Chloë Sevigny, the previous short in the Miu Miu Women’s Tales series, presented in New York in February.
