‘Driftwood, or How We Surfaced Through Currents’ is one of the three joint-winning projects of the Curate Award, an international competition launched by Fondazione Prada in 2013.
Devised by Evelyn Simons, the exhibition Driftwood, or How We Surfaced Through Currents is open to the public until 22 July in eleven spaces (shops, bars, workshops and outside areas) around the Exarcheia neighbourhood of Athens.
The project explores the movement of people and the circulation of capital, and how these endless flows of motion are organised, systematised, controlled and contested. Artists from different backgrounds have employed a plurality of media (installations, posters, graffiti, sculptures and video) to tackle these issues in a series of site-specific projects.
