EU, an anthological exhibition from Japanese photographer Satoshi Fujiwara (Kobe, 1984), includes some of the artist’s most significant works alongside 5K Confinement, a commission created for Belligerent Eyes, the research project on contemporary image production organised by the Fondazione Prada in Venice in the summer of 2016.
Curated by Luigi Alberto Cippini, with the furnishings designed by Armature Globale, the exhibition offers an alternative to the representational work that currently makes up the dominant European photographic identity. His photographs feature unusual framing and focal lengths and heterogeneous definition, and this has a pressing and critical effect on the observer, moving away from standard photojournalism techniques and from an exclusively documentary style.
The exhibition is divided into two sections: the first part, on the lower floor of the Osservatorio, offers a reconstruction of his commission 5K Confinement, while the second floor houses a retrospective that brings together and expands upon various works and projects by the artist, some of which are still ongoing.
Fondazione Prada Osservatorio – Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, Milan – from 7 June to 15 October.
