Fondazione Prada presents The New American Cinema Torino 1967, an experimental film festival curated by Germano Celant that reconstructs the New American Cinema Group Exposition, a festival of 63 films organised in Turin in 1967 by director Jonas Mekas devoted to the group of young filmmakers known by the acronym NACG (New American Cinema Group).
Fondazione Prada will screen almost all of the films presented in Turin in 1967, and the festival will be accompanied by a new volume in the Quaderno series, including some texts appearing in print for the first time, such as transcripts of several panel discussions between Mekas and audiences who attended the screenings in 1967.
The films will be shown from 1 to 30 April at the Fondazione Prada Cinema, with the programme replicating the order of the original festival in Turin. During the four weekends, the screenings will be preceded by panel discussions featuring stars of New American Cinema and researchers into the movement.
