Church’s presents the Chetwynd Contour, a shoe that combines Church’s artisanal excellence with the latest manufacturing technology. Made on the distinctive 173 last, this new version of the historic lace-up pairs tradition and innovation, and boasts a sophisticated silhouette and bold character.
The Chetwynd Contour stands out for its cutting-edge leather engraving technique. High-frequency waves are used to produce the traditional wingtip design with a sophisticated embossed effect, without compromising either the integrity of the upper or the shoe’s distinctive features, like its rounded toe. Artisanal craftmanship remains the cornerstone of the production process: Church’s expert craftsmen in Northampton meticulously prepare each shoe for guaranteed comfort and durability.
The Contour range will be available in brushed leather – with a choice of black, navy blue or wood green colourways – in Church’s stores and at church-footwear.com.
About Chetwynd
The first Chetwynd was made in 1948 on the 73 last, and made an impression as a result of its light weight and more formal elegance compared to traditional brogues. The shoe was later reworked using the 100 last, producing a more contemporary design. Church’s research ultimately led to the creation of the 173 last, which provided the perfect blend of the best features of the previous two versions.
Crafting the Chetwynd is a meticulous process involving two hundred and fifty steps carried out by hand over roughly eight weeks, testament to the attention to detail and artisanal quality of every Church’s creation.
